When Was the Last Time You Got “Jammed-up?”

April 6, 2012 Articles

(A SPECIAL CLIA OFFER BELOW)

This phrase hit me like a ton of bricks as I was watching the TV Show Blue Bloods last Friday evening.

The detective (the commissioner’s son) made a decision that he knew was a step or two out of bounds. When he was called in to explain his actions the “*&%^” hit the fan. He knew it was coming.

When his partner asked about the “dress-down,” he instantly replied with, “We got jammed up.” But then something very noticeable happened.

This guy kept moving forward. Sure, he might have regretted his decision after playing Monday Morning Quarterback and giving it some more thought, but he wasn’t going to let it ruin his day, week, month, year or career. He wasn’t heading off to the Brooklyn Bridge to showcase his “Flying Wallenda move.” He kept moving forward.

So he got “jammed-up! Big deal.

Every time I see, hear, experience or witness a lesson like this in action …  I think of my associates in the travel business. (Maybe my friend Larry has it right when he strongly suggests that I find a hobby.)

Let me see if I can net this thing out for you.

1)   You will make knee-jerk decisions at times. Some outcomes will prove to be better than others. Life goes on. You will go on.

2)   If you are not getting ‘jammed-up” now and then, perhaps you are not extending far enough outside your comfort zone. Getting “jammed-up” won’t kill you. In fact, it just might help accelerate your learning curve. It certainly will take the “boring” out of your life.

3)   It is easier to ask for forgiveness than it is to ask for permission. (You didn’t hear that from me.)

4)   Some days you will be the bug; some days you will be the windshield. Just don’t get comfortable being the bug.

So I ask you this: When was the last time you got jammed-up? If you can’t remember, then it just might be a good time to do something about it. Get  up. Get out. And get “jammed-up.”
