The Art of the Sale: Fail to Learn

February 13, 2018 Underlines

“Each failure is considered an opportunity to learn.”

The Art of the Sale– Philip Delves Broughton, page 222

Chapter 8 : A Hybrid Vigor

We are taught from a very early age to avoid failure. I am one of the few who spotted the folly in this advice years ago and as a result, have been preaching the benefits of failing for over 30 years.

I am not suggesting that “failures” are the real winners. Far from it. I am saying that the fastest way for you to know what you don’t know is to fail. The writing on the wall then becomes clear, and you know exactly what you need to learn to move forward. Failure leads to success.

It is true that if you are not failing, you are not reaching outside your safe zone. No failure… no progress. And contrary to popular belief, although failure may prove to be embarrassing at times, it is seldom fatal. However, we may feel a slight “sting” now and then.

The key to capitalizing on failure is whether you gain from the experience. I am not a proponent for “failing stupid.” As long as you continue to learn from your miscues, I say “Full speed ahead; fail away.”
